Founded in 1982 to protect the flora of the region, Ya’ax Che is the country’s largest botanical garden. Expanding 65 acres, this Garden has a brilliant collection of the Yucatan Peninsula’s plants and flowers on display. There is also a chicle (gum) camp, a cottage for reading, an archaeological site, a natural park and suspension bridges, which provide an excellent place to bird watch. With any luck, you will also see some monkeys swinging through the trees.
